AEM Induction Systems News Cold Air Intake System for Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution 2.0L Unleashes 5.3 Horsepower
2008, 2009, 2010 and 2011 Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution 2.0L Cold Air Intake
The Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution first debuted in the mid 1990's and today it has transformed into a double duty titan. The latest Evo X is a perfect car that can throw it down on a time attack course and still drive home after a quick weekend victory. The Lancer Evo utilizes a 2.0L turbo charged engine backed by either the 6-speed twin clutch transmission (MR edition) or the 5-speed manual transmission (GSR edition). The MR edition comes equipped with paddle shifters for ease and control of shifting around the rally course. The all-wheel drive system guarantees the traction is applied to the ground in any conditions, including snow.

Lancer's Evolution has been popular in the Rally Sport world for good reason; they were made for it! But let's face it, improvements can be made. The 300 horsepower engine could most certainly benefit from more air flow. AEM took on the challenge of manufacturing a unique intake system that adds performance. An estimated gain of 5.3 horsepower was discovered using AEM's 21-679DS cold air intake on a Lancer Evo. This air intake fits many 2008 through 2011 Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution models with the 2.0 liter engine. See vehicle details below.

AEM engineered part number 21-679DS to squeeze around the battery to flow cooler air from the driver's side fender into the engine. Jon Concialdi, of AEM, commented, "The battery placement made the design of this kit difficult and it took a lot of attention to get sufficient clearance." With the battery in the way, a rotomolded plastic tube was designed to clear the space between the battery and the hood. This is a newer feature for AEM. Aluminum intake pipes have mainly been used for AEM intake systems in the past. A rotomolded plastic tube gives engineers more design options which was needed in the case of the Mitsubishi Lancer Evo.
Concialdi mentioned that, "Many of the newer designs will feature an air box with innovative methods to introduce lower temperatures to the engine." Cooler air temperatures normally allow engines to produce more power. AEM's 21-679DS cold air intake includes a rotomolded upper intake pipe, a lower aluminum intake pipe with a gunmetal gray finish, all of the necessary hardware, and detailed installation instructions.
AEM air intakes are application specific and made from high quality materials. AEM provides a limited lifetime warranty on all AEM air intakes. The air filter (21-203DK) included with AEM the 21-679DS air intake system, is washable and reusable which means a replacement air filter will never need to be purchased again. The AEM Dryflow® air filter is very durable and it doesn't use oil which saves time servicing the air filter.
